As a former student of the Department, I returned to the
University in 2002 to take up the post of Programme Administrator for Applied
Social Studies.
After a brief stint as acting Field Administrator for the Sport and Science divisions, I was appointed to the new role of Placement Co-ordinator in 2005.
This role involves working closely with students and
the Social Work team to co-ordinate practice learning opportunities, or
placements, which are a key part of the Social Work Programme.
The main element of placement co-ordination is liaising with students and local employers to match students with a placement that is suitable for them, in terms of geographical location and their learning needs.
Other aspects of my role include evaluating the quality of existing practice learning opportunities, as well as developing new partnerships with local employers in Social Work/ Social Care.
