We have set up a new printmaking facility that includes a fully equipped water based silkscreen studio and facilities to do wood cuts, relief printing and photo etching supported by a computer facility for the production of photo mechanical and digital processes.
The Mac computer studios and edit suites have 140+ top specification Apple Macintosh G5 computers, iMacs and G4 computers, along with PC's, printers and scanners. All machines are running up to-date software including Macromedia studio MX 2004 with Flash MX 2004 professional, Adobe Creative Suite Professional along with Apple Final Cut Pro HD, DVD Studio Pro,Logic pro 7, Reason 2.5, Maya 6, Sketchup 4 and of course iLife '04 + '05. These open access computer rooms allow for great creative freedom.
On hand each day in the printshop is a technician and demonstrator to help with support using any of the computers, their hardware and their software.
If you can't remember how to save in Adobe Photoshop or your mouse is refusing to move the support is there.
The printshop is situated right next to the computer gym enabling students to proof A3 colour prints for free and buy A1 prints for as little as £4 from within the department.
Students can borrow all kinds of digital equipment from the media hub. With around 20 digital cameras to choose from like the 5 Megapixel HP945 and Canon g5 you should find the right one for your project. Whenever you need to shoot some video or film you can borrows Sony Pd170's, Canon and JVC cameras. All equipment is free to use and can be borrowed overnight or over the weekend.
