Theatre director Jo McInnes with Media Performance students

Media Performance students at the University of Bedfordshire learned from a leading theatre director in an afternoon of masterclasses.

Jo McInnes is an actress and director who recently directed a play called Red Bud at the prestigious Royal Court Theatre in Sloane Square, London.

She visited the Luton campus on Wednesday, 10 November to deliver masterclasses to level one students and a separate one for level two and three students.

Dr Maria Wiener, Course Leader in Media Performance, said: “Jo loved the experience she had with our students and they loved her! We would be delighted to see her coming back for more sessions with them."

“She could see how much the students can progress from level one to level three, and she also remarked that she could tell they were Margo’s students!”

Jo was recommended by Margo Annett, a current Senior Lecturer in Media Performance at the University, who had taught her as a student.

One of the level two students, Vanessa Montes, said: “I really enjoyed the masterclass; Jo is an amazing woman who made me believe again how much I love acting.”

And a level three student, Becky Palmer, said: “I thought the masterclass was really helpful."

"Not only did Jo start by giving us some practical, straight to the point advice about the industry but she set up a creative environment in which we (as directors) could explore and discuss our ideas for a short scene with her input."
