Take a tour around the biggest football club in the world and you will hear a distinctive voice.
For Media Performance graduate Gemma Hunt can be heard by thousands of people each week as part of the children’s tour around Manchester United’s home, Old Trafford.
This is just one of the ways the 28-year-old children’s television presenter from the West Country will be known to people up and down the country.
On a return to the Luton campus, Gemma said: “I can’t believe I started university a decade ago! And I can’t believe the university has got a different name now and the whole media department is now based here in one building.
“The facilities are even better than I sometimes work with in the professional industry. All the equipment is modern and it’s definitely better than some studios I’ve worked in.”
Gemma gave masterclasses on interviewing and presenting to level two Media Performance students during two separate visits. The first masterclass on interviewing was held in the Judith Blake Theatre and was especially poignant.

“Judith Blake was one
of my lecturers and she was a real inspiration to me,” said Gemma.
“It’s such an honour to come back here now; Judith was someone who inspired me and always encouraged me.”
The student feedback was positive to the delight of Dr Maria Wiener, Course Leader of Media Performance, and Kathryn Wolfe, a Senior Lecturer in Media Performance and Course Leader in TV Production.
Comments from the second masterclass on presenting included:
Gemma hit the big time as a children’s television presenter after leaving university at Luton. After four years working for CBBC, she has been freelancing for the last two and a half years.
She will be recognisable to many as Barney Harwood’s co-presenter in the popular series Barney’s Latin America which followed on from the success of Barney’s Barrier Reef.

The latest series, Barney’s Latin America, was produced following a three-week trip to Costa Rica in February and was televised this summer. The majority of the 27 shows were filmed in just over a week due to the wet weather they encountered during their visit.
Gemma said: “It’s never quite as glamorous as people think! We were working every hour of the day at one stage due to delays because of the heavy rain.”
There was another trip to an exotic location for Gemma when she went to Australia in 2008 for seven weeks to shoot Barney’s Barrier Reef.
As well as other voice-over work, Gemma has kept busy by presenting a BBC Education programme called Together.
