For more information on these degrees visit the RIMAD website.
In the recent research assessment exercise over half our research was designated world leading or internationally excellent. See our research exercise website at research assessment website
We have a research centre: the Centre for International Media Analysis 'CIMA' and research expertise in new media; publishing; cross-media integration; journalism; sport and the media; community radio, political communication. We have practice-led research in creative writing, new media, journalism and radio, art and community, and performance.
We are the home of the Journalism and the Olympic Games Research Group co-ordinated by Professor Garry Whannel. The JOG Group was established in 2005 to develop an international network of research into journalism, politics and the Olympic Games.
We also have the editorial office of the international refereed journal, Convergence: The International Journal of Research into New Media Technologies. Convergence has an international editorial board, with members drawn from Europe, Australia, USA, Canada, Hong Kong and Japan, it has subscribers world-wide. The journal acts as an invaluable bridge between the research work of the staff and postgraduate students of the Department and the wider community of scholars.
We have a research project in Cross-media co-operation in Britain the 1920s and 1930s funded by the Arts and Humanities Research council (2005-2008). The project examines early attempts at co-operation between film companies, radio broadcasters, agents and authors in the 1920s and 1930s, particularly in the sale of broadcast rights, film options and in the timing and release of book, film and radio tie-ins.
RIMAD runs regular conferences and research talks series. The 2006 conference was Media in the Enlarged Europe May 5-6th 2006. Visit theĀ Research Institute for Media Art and Design for further details.
