"I went on to become a presenter with the BBC"
"We were the guinea pigs", said Becky Jago, one of the first students to take the University of Luton's pioneering Media Performance course and who last November became a presenter on BBC TV's children's news show, Newsround.
For Becky, the most valuable part of her course at Luton was working on Luton FM, the RSL (restricted service licence) station run by students at the university. "This is where I learned how to write scripts and how to work to tight deadlines. Five minutes late was too late, just as it is now."
Becky also did a lot of acting while at Luton, performing at the University with the One Night Only group. In fact, she says, she first took the course intending to become an actress. But, by the time she left Luton, she knew she wanted to be in broadcasting, and was fortunate to land her first job presenting travel bulletins and co-presenting the breakfast show on the East of England's dance radio station, Vibe FM.
Interview took place in 2002.
Becky is now a presenter on the award winning 95.8 Capital FM Breakfast Show, waking up over 1.6 million Londoners every day.
