Jon Talbot: BA Hons Media Performance with Radio

Jon Talbot

BA Hons Media Performance with Radio, 2002

"I am a Systems Administrator for TNT Logistics, with a part-time job on a local BBC radio station."

When not working in his demanding role at TNT Logistics, Jon Talbot is a freelance Broadcast Assistant for BBC Radio Lincolnshire. He explained: “My full-time job is as a Systems Administrator working on an award-winning manifest system for the Collection Service operation provided by TNT to Rolls-Royce. I also administer a Transport Booking System, which I have been involved in from conception to implementation.”

Meanwhile, Jon is still pursuing his interest in broadcast media. He is currently working mainly with the Radio Lincolnshire sports department. He has also recently become involved in a community radio station in Leek, Staffordshire and, when on air, he produces the Drivetime Programme.

He originally chose Luton because he wanted a degree course with a strong element of radio, but which would also give him a chance to develop a variety of other skill sets. Luton seemed to him to offer a course that fitted this description, and he had heard good things about the teaching.

Jon said: “I keep in regular contact with as many people as possible from my Luton days. I met some of my best friends at Luton.” He very much enjoyed his time at the University. “The atmosphere of the University, Student Union and the town itself were vibrant and intriguing. Everyone there seemed to want to strive to succeed and have a great time along the way,” he added.

“Although I still haven’t managed to find that elusive job in broadcasting, my best advice is to just keep trying and trying and the opportunities will make their way into your path. My work at the BBC came about by pure chance and the opportunities put my way increase almost weekly! Keep at it and it’ll all come together in the end.”

Interview took place in 2005.
