Leanne Storey: BA Hons Interior Design

Leanne Storey

BA Hons Interior Design, 2007

Leanne Storey

Leanne Storey joined the University’s Interior Design course in 2004.

“After my A levels I took an art and design foundation course, and on completing that I went travelling for a year.  When I returned I worked for a year and then enrolled in the University.”

“I chose to study at the University of Bedfordshire because It was close to my home and easy for me to commute.”

Always an extremely hard worker and a talented designer, she produced the best Interior Design dissertation of 2007, and was one of the students nominated in the D&AD Global Student Awards. She also gained a well-deserved First-class honours degree.

“Some of the final critiques were pretty tough, and putting together the work for the end of year art and design show took a lot of hard work. The many critiques got me prepared for the amount of changes there can be to a simple design.  It's amazing to see how something starts and then compare it to what you get as a final result.

“On my course I particularly enjoyed improving my presentation skills and I always strove for better results each time.  I also enjoyed model making and working with different materials.  Most of all I enjoyed being creative and thinking of new and exciting ideas constantly.”

After a two-stage interview process, and in fierce competition with applicants from around the world, Leanne was offered a job with Forester+Partners – one of the world’s top architect companies, famous for their work on the Swiss Re building in London, also know as ‘the Gherkin’, the new Wembley Stadium, the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank, and the Millau Viaduct in France.

Leanne accepted the job offer, and is loving every minute of her new job.

“Studying Design at the University of Bedfordshire allowed me to develop key skills, including good oral presentation skills, team work, high standards of graphic presentation and model making. I would recommend the University as I think it is challenging and you can get out of it what you put in. My advice to any one thinking of studying at the University of Bedfordshire is if you want to work hard and see it through, then go for it!”

Interview took place in 2007.
