Brian originally trained as a mechanical engineer and spent some fifteen years in industry before becoming a mature student and taking a social science degree.
He subsequently worked as a research assistant in several universities, Cranfield School of Management, Strathclyde University and Middlesex University (all between 1986 and 1990), before becoming an ESRC Management Teaching Fellow at the University of Westminster from 1990 to 1993.
He joined Bedford College of Higher Education in 1993, prior to its merger with De Montfort University and in 2006 transferred to the newly formed University of Bedfordshire.
Brian currently teaches on a number of undergraduate business modules: Operations Management, Management, Business Venturing and Contemporary Business Issues. He also teaches Business Research Issues and Analysis as well as coordinates the Special Study (Business) module and acts as a supervisor.
He has taught on several MBA programmes, covering marketing and research topics. Brian has supervised a number of MBA dissertations both on UK and Malaysian MBA programmes.
Previous research interest, stemming form projects undertaken as a research assistant, have included new product development, marketing in small firms, user initiated product development and commercialising technological spin-offs.
Recent research areas have included inter-organisational relationships and spatial dynamics and forms of network relations.
