Diane has 20 years of experience in Higher Education, progressing from Lecturer to Principal Lecturer in 2000. In 1999 she was awarded one of seven inaugural University Teacher Fellowships in recognition of her excellence in teaching and supporting student learning. In 2001 she was De Montfort University’s nominee for a National Teacher Fellow award.
Diane's teaching is in the areas of Information Systems and Software Engineering, with particular interest in project management and quality assurance. However, she has a keen interest in skills development and completed her MA in Learning and Teaching in 2003 with research into academic skills development in the final year of a degree course. She is currently leading a project to enhance a first year skills module, linking Personal Development Planning (PDP) and portfolio work.
Diane was Head of Division of Computing and Information Sciences at De Montfort University’s Milton Keynes campus, before relocating to the site in Bedford. As part of the new University of Bedfordshire, in Bedford, she is a Business Subject Team Leader and Faculty Deputy Head of Quality, with significant experience of validations, subject reviews and quality procedures.
Diane's background includes teaching Programming, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Project Management and Quality Assurance, at HND, degree and MSc level. She has also developed and lead an event management, Exhibition module for the HND Computing course, which was regarded as highly innovative and thoroughly enjoyed by staff and students.
She believes the development of skills (key skills, vocational skills, study skills and academic skills) is essential during a course. Diane is pro-active in enhancing this aspect of courses, leading teaching in a first year skills development module and having developed and taught research skills modules and final year academic skills sessions to enhance students’ learning and achievement.
Currently Diane teaches the ACCA’s Information Systems module, which forms part of a professional qualification for those wishing to enter the accountancy profession. She has recently taught modules in ICT and Information Systems, Information Management on the DMS course, Database Design and IT Skills for Business students. Diane also proposes and supervises final year projects.
Her research interests are in the area of learning and teaching, with particular interests in e-Learning, computer based assessment and skills development. She has published papers and presented at conferences in collaboration with a colleagues from across the University, from different subject areas and central learning and teaching support departments. Working with a team of multi-disciplinary colleagues she has provided a wealth of knowledge and experience to share and enhance the research.
Teaching Quality Enhancement Fund (TQEF) project 2006/7.
£1500 awarded for the proposal to enhance the Introduction to Degree Studies Module, on BA (Hons) Business Management Year 1, to improve motivation, assessment submission and module pass rate.
Training courses arranged for start-up companies, via Bedford Development Agency, at ILab, Bedford.
Session topics included time management, web skills, database design and project management.
