Vincent Ong

Vincent Ong completed his MBA with Distinction in University of Leicester in 1998. He then completed his PhD in Information Systems in University of Bedfordshire in June 2006. He has published a total of six refereed papers and two book chapters. One of his papers has been selected as the best paper in the Management Information Systems session of an international research conference. He has presented his work at national and international research conferences. He has also been appointed as co-chairperson in an international research conference. In January 2007, he won the Dean’s Prize for Research in the Bedfordshire Business School.

His research initiative is directed largely toward the study and application of advanced and emerging information systems and technologies for supporting strategic information processing activities. His research interests include business intelligence systems with agent technology support, intelligent information systems and management, software agent and Internet technologies and applications.

Vincent has been lecturing at the University’s Business School since 1999. He has substantial teaching experience across different levels in both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. He is the Module Leader of five Business Information Systems related subjects and Module Team of two subjects. He has also been awarded in Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education (PGCTHE).

Vincent has also been involved in different research projects since he joined the University. His current research project – Languages for e-commerce involves the design, development and implementation of the online e-Marketing module and the moderation and evaluation of online courses and ontology dictionary tool.

Research Project Experience

Languages for eCommerce (from November 2004 to November 2007) – 51,750 EURO budget

Languages for eCommerce is a project funded by Leonardo da Vinci, a European Community programme. The project will help European SMEs and higher education learners by providing training in the area of e-Commerce thus helping to improve the competitiveness of European small businesses in the global commercial environment. The outcomes of this project include three e-learning modules and an ontology dictionary tool for e-commerce. I am the Project Manager on behalf of the University responsible for the collaboration work with the 11 partners across Europe. I am participating in the design, development and implementation of the online e-Marketing module and the moderation and evaluation of online courses and ontology dictionary tool.

WEBstep Programme (from September 2000 to December 2003)

WEBstep Programme is a European Social Fund project that helps SMEs develop and maintain business web pages, develop employees' Internet skills and exploit opportunities arising from e-commerce. I was responsible for workshop scheduling of fellow teaching staff, revising teaching content and delivering a series of half-day workshops on web site planning, design and development. The programme had benefited more than 900 people from 700 companies across Bedfordshire in two and a half years.
