"I am a Senior Cost Engineer at Bechtel."

Brett, known as Blioux to his friends, joined Bechtel straight after leaving Luton and has never looked back.

“With Bechtel, I have not only travelled extensively in the US and the rest of the world, but have also gained experience of working on some major construction projects including the Channel Tunnel and the new terminal at London Luton Airport,” he said.

“I’m now working as a Senior Cost Engineer for the Nanhai Petrochemical project in China.”

Blioux has experienced the country’s diversity of cultures and has been able to work with people of many nationalities.

“I really enjoyed my degree course at Luton and the business aspects of the course, such as corporate strategy and accounting, have been invaluable in my professional career.”

Blioux urges potential students to ask current Luton students or alumni for their opinions of Luton, rather than basing their decision on league table results.

“Luton may not receive the best write-ups in the press, but the courses are great and the lecturers go out of their way to make sure your time at Luton is a rewarding and memorable experience.”

He has also gained various professional qualifications since leaving Luton and is now an Associate of the Association of Cost Engineers and was Six-Sigma trained in London. “I’ve also recently completed my advanced PADI course for scuba diving and have qualifications in Mandarin,” he added.

‘I would like to thank all the lecturers that taught me at Luton – I have three years of great memories.”
