"I am an Assistant Product Manager at Cereal Partners, which forms part of the Nestle group."
Sonia is delighted she’s found a career that uses the skills she gained on her degree course at Luton.
She’s been at the sharp end in customer services at the Shredded Wheat factory in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, for two years, waiting for an opportunity in marketing.
After returning to work from three months of maternity leave, her patience has paid off. She’s now part of the ideas team for new ‘own label’ lines in marketing.
She said: “The majority of my modules were in marketing and PR and I have been waiting for an opportunity to use them. I really enjoyed doing my degree and I have missed uni.
“If you have a passion for something, make the right noises and are prepared to wait for your chance, it pays off in the end. The company has been very supportive and helped me get where I wanted to be.
“Now I will be involved with planning the marketing for customer brands in new product development – producing new ideas for new own label lines which are then presented to our customers. I like the brainstorming this involves within a team. It’s exciting and a great new challenge for me. I’m confident I’ll fit in."
Interview took place in 2003.
