Ann Hedges

Senior Lecturer in Mental Health and Learning Disabilities

ann-hedges130

My professional background is of both a Registered General Nurse and also a Learning Disability Nurse. I am currently involved with the Common Foundation Programme of the Diploma/BSc in Nursing. On the programme I teach a wide range of subjects such as communication, nursing and caring issues and professional topics.

My involvement in the Learning Disability branch is teaching involving health focus, such as meeting health potential and multiple health needs. This links in well with my personal interest of how mainstream medical services meet the health care needs of people with learning disabilities. With this aspect, I am also involved in teaching issues related to learning disability. I am involved in both years of the learning disability branch, and have recently become involved with the Disseminating Best Practice Unit for students undertaking the BSc programme

I am also involved with the Return to Professional Practice programme, which prepares qualified staff to return to nursing following a career break.

I have recently become involved in the development of on-line learning packages, and these aspects particularly interests me.
