My practice background is originally in the area of mental health nursing.
After qualifying I worked in hospital and acute mental health unit environments.
I subsequently qualified as a Clinical Nurse Teacher and became involved with student nurses.
This was followed by undertaking a learning disability programme and qualification as a learning disability nurse.
After working in a variety of pre and post registration teaching posts in health I joined the University 12 years ago.
I am currently involved in a number of pre registration nursing modules and manage the BA(Hons) Health Care - Mental Health/Learning Disability programmes and the MSc Professional Practice - Mental Health and Learning Disabilities programme.
I have a particular interest in the area of self injuring behaviour and the challenges involved in providing individuals with non judgemental professional support.
I have had a number of papers published in areas as diverse as dual diagnosis, student assessment, consent and enhanced observation in mental health.
