Elizabeth Phasey

Profile

Elizabeth 'Liz' Phasey, Practice Educator

Elizabeth 'Liz' Phasey

I spend 50% of my time in practice and 50% teaching in the classroom.

My commitment to educating nurses is to ensure that they are of sufficient quality to achieve the reward of the awarding body.

Teaching interest

The main emphasis of my work is in skill teaching where I have an input into the clinical skills of common foundation programmes for students.

I am enthusiastic in this role of ensuring students are able to deliver quality, evidence based care to their future patients. I am involved in teaching and examining student nurses in aseptic technique in OSCEs.

My specialist areas are assisting patients with hygiene needs, continence and blood pressure monitoring.

Because of my previous experience as a District Nurse and Practice Teacher I am involved in preparation of students for their community placements, ensuring the learning outcomes can be achieved in community settings.

I visit students and their mentors - underlining the partnership working existing between Trusts and the University.

I spend time with mentors helping and supporting them in their role of supervising and assessing students in practice.

I teach to the Mentorship and Support for Professional Practice course and deliver updates to mentors advising them of any changes to the current nurse curriculum and sharing areas of good practice.

One of my specialist areas is promotion of continence and I remain current in my practice by working with the Specialist Continence Nurses assisting at clinics.

I am also developing a training programme for District Nurses regarding specialist continence care for specific patients.
