Throughout my professional life in the health service, I have been working in teaching hospitals, as a Registered Nurse and Intensive Care Nurse in Singapore and as a Registered Midwife in the United Kingdom.
My nursing experience were mainly in acute medical and surgical wards; Coronary Care Unit; Medical and Surgical Intensive Care Unit; Neurological Intensive Care Unit; Cardio-thoracic Intensive Care Unit; Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Renal Dialysis Unit.
As a practising Midwife since 1984, my midwifery practice had mainly been on the labour ward as midwife and senior midwife. In 1997, whilst I was managing the maternity ward, I was presented to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II with the privileged task of giving her a guided tour of the new maternity ward.
