Profile

Monica McLeod, Practice Educator

Monica McLeod

I am a Practice Educator at Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust and based at the High Wycombe site.
I have over 30 years experience as a midwife and have a BA (Hons) degree in Midwifery.

Having spent several years abroad in contrasting countries such as Pakistan and Canada, has opened my eyes to the challenges and rewards of working with other nationalities and ethnic groups.

I am a supervisor of midwives and aim to support and strengthen colleagues in their work while at the same time trying to motivate, encourage and raise their standards so that each midwife can achieve their full potential.

This in turn gives them confidence to be supportive and accommodating in their roles as mentors.

Midwifery is a skill using your hands, head and heart.

Your hands become the touch to detect and decipher but also the touch of compassion and care.

The head transmits the touch into usable information that promotes skill, understanding and confidence.

The heart is the depth to which we feel and understand – it makes midwifery more than ‘just another job’!
