The University of Bedfordshire has recently completed its programme of helping businesses in the East of England in the Innovation Voucher scheme for 2010/11.
The scheme, which secures funding for small and medium enterprises and is run by the East of England Development Agency (EEDA), provides up to £3,000 worth of one-to-one consultancy to help increase efficiency and profitability, to enable a business to make better-informed decisions, and to increase market share and create jobs.
A total of 12 businesses from Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Essex benefitted from the University’s assistance, coming from varying industries including Electronics, Travel, Transport, Manufacturing and Design. University departments involved in assisting with the Innovation Voucher delivery included Computer Science and Technology (8 projects) and INTOUR (the University’s Institute for Tourism Research).
Dr Alexey Bochenkov, University’s Business Interaction Manager who managed 8 projects under the Innovation Voucher scheme said:
“We had very interesting projects and significantly increased our engagement with businesses and industrial partners.
Developing such links with industry, increasing awareness of the University’s values among businesses and building up long-term relationships with companies is a very important part of the University’s strategy”.
He added: “Academics and students passed their cutting-edge knowledge to businesses but also strengthened their own expertise. The scheme has a significant impact and inspires our students to achieve even greater results during their studies”.
