The Department of Computing and Information Technology at Barnfield College works in close partnership with the Department of Computing and Information Systems.

We deliver a wide range of successful and highly sought after Foundation Degrees in Computing. The highly qualified teaching team boasts a considerable number of accolades and partnerships, which include:

  • The grade of ‘outstanding’ by OFSTED, the government inspectorate. The Department of Computing and Information Technology is one of only three in the UK to have achieved this grade.
  • The status of Centre of Vocational Excellence in Computer Integrated Networking
  • Approved as a Cisco Regional Academy, delivering the CCNA and CCNP networking qualifications
  • Approved as a Microsoft Academy, delivering the MCSE (server, workstation and networking) and the MCSD (Software Developer) internationally recognised qualifications
  • Approved as an Oracle Academic partner, delivering advanced Database, Data Modelling, SQL and programming skills.
  • In partnership with CompTIA as an E2C centre, offering the internationally recognised A+(Computer Hardware), Linux+, Security+ qualifications.
  • Endorsed by ESkills, the Modern Telecommunications Foundation Degree is a qualification that is recognised by the telecommunications industry within the UK.

At undergraduate level we offer six pathways within our foundation degree programme, which can lead to degrees in Computer Science, Networking, and Telecommunications.

The courses include Software Development, Web Development, Networking (CCNP) Networking (CCNA), Networking (MCSE) and Modern Telecommunications.

With over 500 computers, the technical computing resources within the Department of Computing and Information Technology at Barnfield College Technology Centre are extensive and state of the art.

The centre offers five networking / hardware labs equipped to deliver to over 100 students simultaneously on a wide range of advanced technical disciplines.
