Ian Masters

Profile

Ian Masters, Lecturer Creative Technologies

Entrepreneur and specialist in design, development and production of games and apps for console, mobile and PC.

Ian Masters received his BSc (hons) in Computer Science from the University of Leeds in 1998.

Professional game development experience from PlayStation1 to iPhone, PC and PS3.  Credits include titles such as EA's FIFA and the classic 10/10 rated “TOCA: World Touring Cars”. Experienced in all aspects production, often overseeing multiple projects simultaneously.

In 2003 Ian founded mobile games specialist AirPlay where he created the BAFTA nominated Super Yum Yum.  AirPlay spent several years developing high profile mobile games for clients such as Sony, Sega, Namco and Glu before focusing on developing its own IP across multiple platforms.  Mobile highlights include:

  • Sonic at the Olympic Games (Sega)
  • Pop Idol / The X Factor (Namco)
  • Sonic Jump (Sega/Glu)
  • Chu Chu Rocket (Sega/iFone)
  • Super Yum Yum (Namco)

Ian began teaching part-time at UoB in January 2011.  As someone actively involved in the games development industry his goal is to share his experience with the students and help them create great games.

In his spare time, Ian enjoys playing capoeira and World of Warcraft.
