UPDATE (1st December 2010):
Nik is now working full-time as a Professor of Computer Science at the School of Computing and Maths, University of Derby. Professor Bessis is also the Head of Distributed and Intelligent Systems research group. Nik also works part-time at the University of Bedfordshire; he is mainly involved in projects (like MSV) and curriculum development.
Nik joined the Department as a Lecturer in 2001 and was rapidly promoted to Senior Lecturer. In September 2004 he took on the role of Postgraduate Course Manager. In 2009, he promoted to a Principal Lecturer (US Associate Professor) through the University Promotion Round and took on the role of University Extended Degrees (Return to Learning) Course Manager. Nik coordinated the MSc project and co-chaired the Department’s curriculum development. Nik is IEEE member and Fellow of HEA and BCS.
In his spare time, Nik enjoys walking, watching movies and F1 races and meeting people from all around the world.

Nik has also a track record in UG/PG course and PhD external examination and UG/PG course validation such as in University of Wales (NEWI), University of Staffordshire, University of Northampton, University of Derby, University of Central Lancashire and University of Greenwich. Nik was also a Research Informed Teaching (RiT) and Senior Teaching Fellow (2008-2009, 2006) and led the RiT initiative in the Department in 2009. During his MSc course management period, Nik has led the periodic reviews and validations of 14 MSc courses. Nik also led the MSc documentation for the QAA visit in 2004 and was a University panel member panel for the QAA visit in 2009.
Nik’s research interest is the analysis, research, and delivery of user-led developments with regard to trust, data integration, annotation, and data push methods and resource discovery services in distributed environments such as grids and clouds. Nik has published over 100 works and won 2 best paper awards.
