“I am now an IT Developer for a fantastic, fast moving company called 2SMS.com.”
Anita graduated in 2005 with a first class honours degree in Computer Science. In addition she also received the Department of Computing and Information Systems prize for top academic grades. She said: “My degree has definitely helped me and employers now recognise what I have to offer. Having achieved a first class degree and the Department prize made me realise that despite the odds I could do anything!”
Anita initially chose Luton as it was her closest university and has no regrets. She said: “I had a fantastic experience! The lecturers were extremely dedicated and enthusiastic in their teaching and subject areas and always made time for supporting and giving extra guidance for individual students.”
Anita, a single parent of a young son, also praised the university for the financial support it provided. Furthermore, she was impressed with the CIS laboratories and said: “The labs continue to evolve to provide the latest hardware and software coupled with support staff that were second to none, very friendly and always on hand to help.”
Anita is now in her first job since leaving university as an IT Developer for a fast moving company called 2SMS.com, which is currently becoming big news around the world. The role involves different programming languages and coding models. She is also working on two projects which could potentially lead into working as a Database Technician or a QuickBooks Specialist. She said: “I plan to learn as much as I can, learning never stops in the computing field.”
Anita also plans to return to the University of Luton in the near future to complete either a Masters or a PhD in the computing field.
Interview took place in 2005.
