Role: Academic Director Postgraduate Education Studies and Acting Head

ProfileJuliet Fern

Juliet holds an MA in Learning and Teaching, for which she was awarded a distinction.

Her MA dissertation focused on the support offered to new staff in the Further Education sector and included research into the staff development activities of Beacon Colleges.

Teaching Expertise

  • Academic Director for Postgraduate Education Studies. This role includes quality enhancement and assurance, academic leadership and support for student guidance.
  • Course Leader of an MA Education Course, with 500-600 learners from a range of educational settings.
  • Postgraduate Professional Development (PPD) Partnership Manager, with a focus on providing the MA Education course on partner school sites, to ensure that all local teachers have access to high quality postgraduate development opportunities.
  • University lead for the new Masters in Teaching and Learning (MTL) course, starting in April 2010. This course has been developed as part of a consortium called MTL East, working with universities and schools in the East of England. She is the Coach Lead for MTL East.

Juliet teaches on the following MA Education units:

  • Leading Professional Development in Education;
  • Coaching, Co-coaching and Mentoring;
  • Personal and Professional Development in NQT year.
  • She is also a Postgraduate advisor for prior learning credits and an MA Dissertation Supervisor.

Juliet is a member of the Universities Council for the Education of Teachers (UCET) Continuing Professional Development Committee.

She is also a member of the Cambridge Partnership Executive Committee, Eastern Region CPD/PPD Partnership and several Local Authority Children’s Workforce Strategic Development Groups.
