Senior Lecturer in Education

Liz joined the School of Education in 2007 and is currently teaching on B.A. (Education Studies) and M.A. degree courses as well as the National Award for Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators.
After gaining a B. Ed (Hons) from Cambridge University in 1975, Liz began her teaching career as a class teacher in Hertfordshire primary schools.
During this time Liz developed her interest in special educational needs, gained an Advanced Diploma (SEN) and an RSA certificate in SPLD and became a SENCO, working in mainstream primary schools.
She also gained experience as an SEN (parent) governor in a local primary school.
Liz then worked as an Advisory Teacher within the Educational Psychology and Learning Support Service in Bedfordshire Local Authority.
During this time Liz further developed her specialism in SEN, Inclusion and Diversity.
She achieved an M. Ed in Psychology and Education at Cambridge University in 2006.
Liz is a graduate member of the British Psychological Society (BPS), a member of BERA and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). She also plays the flute and is a member of St. Albans Bach Choir.
Liz is currently teaching on B.A. (Education Studies) and M.A. degree courses.
Liz is currently working with Professor Janice Wearmouth and local authorities to develop and deliver the nationally approved training for SENCOs, leading to the award of a national SENCO qualification, social construct theory (particularly the construction of SEN and Disability); teacher and pupil perceptions of learning; learning theory and the role of formative assessment.

Liz is beginning work on her PhD, undertaking research into student perceptions of SEN and disability.
