Dr Marie Pierre Moreau

Position

Senior Research Fellow

Profile

I am a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Education Studies. After studying Sociology and Gender Studies at the University of Bordeaux and, later on, the University of Toulouse, I worked in a range of research settings in France and Italy. I then spent nearly seven years at the Institute for Policy Studies in Education (IPSE), London Metropolitan University, before joining the University of Bedfordshire in October 2009. My PhD in Sociology (joint award University of Toulouse-London Metropolitan University, cum laude) was a comparative study of gender inequalities in the teaching profession in England and France.

Teaching Expertise

I teach on the MA Education and the Educational Doctorate programmes run by the University. I supervise postgraduate students on the MA Education, Educational Doctorate and PhD programmes.

Research Interests

My research is at the nexus of education, work and equality issues, especially gender. I am particularly interested in how gender, social class and ethnicity shape people's lives and in individuals' discursive construction of equality matters. I also have a specific interest in cross-national comparative theories and methods. I have been involved in and have managed over 30 funded research projects, mostly in the following areas: equality policies in schools, higher education and the labour market; teachers’ careers and identities; students’ subject and career choice; and, broadly, inequalities related to gender, social class and ethnicity in education and work.

I am a member of the editorial board of Gender and Education, a section editor for thirdspace: a journal of feminist theory and culture, and a reviewer for several international, high-ranking academic journals. I am also the convenor of the Comparative and International Education British Educational Research Association Special Interest Group and a member of the BERA Academic Publications Committee. I am a board member of the Institute for Research in Education (IREd) at the University of Bedfordshire, as well as the coordinator of IREd seminar series, the chair of IREd ethics committee, and the group leader for the Education and Social Justice Research Centre. I am also an associate member of the CERTOP-CNRS Research Institute, University of Toulouse.
