Research within the Faculty of Education, Sport & Tourism
Research in Education and Teaching
Research at the Institute broadly addresses the theme of ‘enhancing the student learning experience’.
Four thematic areas contribute to the overarching theme.
- Research informed teaching focuses on the identification and promotion of literature informed reflective practice within educational contexts.
- Research on mentoring/models of partnership seeks to identify best practice in supporting Initial Teacher Training.
- Research on childhood and youth culture investigates
the nature of the lives of children and adolescents, how they have
developed separate and distinct cultures of their own and the impact of
these on their lives and educational experiences.
- Research on technology supported learning and teaching seeks
to understand how the integration of technology (for example, Managed
Learning Environments and Virtual Learning Environments) can mediate,
transform and enhance educational processes.
Research in Physical Education, Exercise Sciences and Sport
The research conducted seeks to advance knowledge and
understanding regarding the participation, performance, practice and
appreciation of physical activity.
The research is focused
around three broad themes which build on established areas of research
excellence that contributed to the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise. The themes include:
- Physical Activity and Health
- Social Psychology of Sport and Exercise
- Social and Cultural Aspects of Physical Activity
