Research Degrees at Bedford campus

Bedford Campus offers MPhil (Master of Philosophy) and PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) qualifications.

Students initially apply for one of the following routes, depending on their qualifications and experience:

  • MPhil (full-time 1-2 years, part-time 2-4 years)
  • MPhil with the possibility of transferring to a PhD (FT 3-4 years, PT 4-5 years) PhD (FT 2-3 years, PT 3-5 years.

Entry requirements

MPhil or MPhil with PhD transfer option:

Applicants normally have at least a second-class honours degree from a British university or equivalent academic or professional qualifications. International qualifications may also be acceptable.

PhD

In addition to the above, PhD applicants normally have a UK masters degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area, which should have been awarded within five years prior to application, including a component dealing with research methods. An equivalent academic or professional qualification, including international qualifications, may be acceptable.

Scholarships

The Faculty has a limited number of bursaries sponsored by the Eileen Alexander Fund.
