Clifford Milner

Senior Lecturer, Media Performance, Acting and Directing

Clifford Milner 

I originally trained as an actor at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art, London. I have worked extensively in theatre, television and radio, including roles in A Very Open Prison, Brookside, Drop the Dead Donkey, Poirot, Pork Pie, The Bill, Trial and Retribution II and IV, Uncle Jack, and the BAFTA award winning Middlemarch for the BBC.

Directing

Produced and toured Kevin Fegan’s play Rule 43 to theatres, art centres, the Edinburgh Festival and 25 UK prisons, resulting in it being nominated as best new play in the Manchester Evening News theatre awards.

Directed innumerable plays in theatres that include The Oldham Coliseum, The Old Rep and Crescent Theatres Birmingham, The Tabard and Jermyn St Theatres, London, and recently the world premiere of The Forest By Kevin Fegan at The Lowry, Salford.

The Musical, ‘Three Steps to Heaven’ at Watford Palace Theatre broke box office records and received wide critical acclaim.

Directed several short films ‘Chick Flick’ and ‘Can I help you?’ have been screened at BAFTA.

Directed Radio and one of the plays ‘Green Park’ can be found here as part of the Urban Scrawl Project, A Joint initiative between Theatre 503 and Theatre Voice.

Qualifications

  • MA in Directing from Middlesex University and the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts (GITIS) in Moscow where I studied the work of Stanislavski, Michael Chekhov and Meyerhold.

Teaching

  • Ran workshops for The English Shakespeare Company (ESC)
  • Directed numerous Shakespearean, early 2Oth Century, contemporary plays, short films and showreels at leading British drama schools and conservatoires. Inc Arts Ed, E15, Mountview, ALRA, Birmingham school of Acting, Essex and Middlesex Universities
