Dr Andrew Davidson, Teaching Fellow

Andrew Davidson

Andrew has been involved in teaching since 1986. He began his career in Sicily as a teacher of English as a Foreign Language. After completing, in 1998, a PhD in Linguistics at The University of London he has specialised in teaching English for Academic Purposes.

Andrew has taught at the University of Nottingham and, since 2000, here at the University of Bedfordshire. Presently, he teaches units on the English Language Studies undergraduate programme and on the MA Applied Linguistics course.

Education and Professional Qualifications

  • Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults (DELTA), (March - June 1999), The Bell Language School, Bowthorpe Hall, Norwich
  • PhD in linguistics, (Sept. 1994 - Dec. 1998), SOAS, University of London. Andrew's  research and thesis concerned topics in the philosophy of linguistics
  • BA (Hons) in linguistics and philosophy, (1989 – 1992), University of East Anglia, Norwich. First class honours degree (with distinction)
  • RSA Prep. Cert. in TEFL, (May – June 1986), Angloschool, Crystal Palace, London

Work Experience

At the University of Nottingham Andrew's duties involved teaching pre-sessional EAP courses to groups of international students preparing to start post-graduate courses.

He has been involved in EFL teaching across the complete range of levels and age groups, both in L1 and L2 contexts. He has taught in Austria, Italy and the UK.

Andrew has worked at SOAS, University of London, as a lecturer where he taught and managed a course (for postgraduate and undergraduate students) in formal semantics.
