Claudia Saraceni

I am interested in all issues related to Language Teaching and Learning, Awareness Development, Second Language (L2) Materials Development as well as Language Acquisition. I am also interested in Cognitive Stylistics, Reader Response Theory and the use of Literary Texts for Language Teaching and Learning purposes. I am a member of MATSDA, the Materials Development Association.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Applied Linguistics– Leeds Metropolitan University
  • MA in L2 Materials Development with Distinction – University of Luton
  • BA (Hons) Modern English Studies – University of Luton
  • Certificate of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages - Trinity College London

Teaching Expertise

  • Co-ordinating and teaching units related to Applied Linguistics and English Language Teching (ELT), based on Second Language Acquisition (SLA), Language Teaching Methodology and ELT, as well as Stylistic Analysis, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Supervision of BA, MA and PhD dissertations
  • Managing and co-teaching the following programmes:
    - Certificate in ELT
    - MA in Applied Linguistics TEFL
    - MA in ELT Management
  • Co-ordinating and teaching units from the field of Foreign Languages at undergraduate level
  • Language teaching: Italian and English

My academic and research interests lie in the areas of:

  • L2 Materials Development for Language Teaching and Learning
  • Language Teaching Methodology
  • The role of reading in language teaching and learning
  • Literary Text Analysis and Reader Response Theory
  • Cognitive Stylistics and the Language of storytelling
  • Language Acquisition and Bilingualism/Multilingualism

  • PhD Thesis on Readings, An Investigation of the Role of Aesthetic Response in the Reading of Narrative Literary Texts – completed in 2010
  • Participating and co-ordinating our Departmental Research Workshops, Internal Research Seminar in collaboration with CRELLA (Centre for Research in English Language Learning and Assessment) – University of Bedfordshire
  • Co-ordinating the development of our research Departmental E-Journal
  • The development of Multilingual children
  • The use of Literary Texts in language teaching and learning

  • Recently, I have been involved in reviewingTomlinson, B (ed.) Materials Development for Language Teaching published by Continuum, for the production of a new edition
