Dr Claudia Saraceni, Senior Lecturer

Claudia Saraceni

Claudia is a Senior Lecturer in TEFL and Applied Linguistics on BA and MA degrees. She is now also managing and teaching the Certificate in TEFL part-time course.  Claudia has been working at the University of Bedfordshire since 1994 teaching various modules, including Italian Language and Literature.

Educational Background

Claudia did her BA (Hons) degree in Modern English Studies, before moving on to her MA in Materials Development for Language Teaching.

At the moment, Claudia is working on a research project for her PhD, that due to be completed in 2009.

Research Interests

Claudia has presented various conference papers on Materials Development for Language Teaching (mostly with MATSDA – the L2 Materials Association) and on Language Teaching Methodology and Research.

She has been involved in various research seminar groups based on the use of action research in language teaching/learning.

Claudia's current academic and research interests lie in the areas of:

  • Materials Development for Language Teaching and Learning
  • Language Teaching Methodology
  • The role of reading in language teaching and learning
  • Literary Text Analysis and Reader Response Theory with implications on teaching
  • Language Acquisition and Bilingualism/Multilingualism

Recent Publications/Conferences

Claudia's recent publication work includes an article for a book entitled Materials Development for Language Teaching published by Continuum and edited by Brian Tomlinson (2003), and a paper presented in the Teaching and Learning Institute Conference on July 11th, 2000 - Aesthetic Experience and The Learner - Ways of Improving Classroom Practice.

Current Projects

Claudia's current research project involves a stylistic analysis of the language used in narrative texts and the role of the reader within this framework, leading to a PhD thesis.

She is also conducting a case-study based on investigating and describing language acquisition of trilingual children.
