TELAS consists of a 2 hour paper. A speaking component may also be offered at some test centres.
The test paper includes two reading tasks, exercises on grammar and vocabulary, and two writing tasks.
The test explores your ability to interact with accuracy and appropriateness in academic and professional contexts.
Better scores are achieved by candidates who are familiar with a range of formal and informal styles of standard English.
The tasks encourage you to demonstrate you have a broad enough range of grammatical structures and vocabulary to express yourself clearly and appropriately.
You are also encouraged to show how you are sensitive to the subtleties of written English across a variety of text types.

TELAS is designed as a ‘cold’ test which means you have not seen the test before, putting every test taker in the same position.
Accordingly, there are no special TELAS practice papers or preparatory courses, although experience of other modern English Language tests like IELTS and Cambridge ESOL exams will be helpful.
The best way to prepare, however, is to take every opportunity to read academic textbooks on the subject of your choice and to familiarise yourself with the conventions of standard written English as used in academic and professional contexts.
