At the School of Law, we offer state-of-the-art facilities, expose you to the latest developments in legal practices and prepare you for a successful career in Law. We offer courses, with students at all levels from undergraduate, through to our LLM and PhD Programmes.
The School of Law
is a friendly, dynamic teaching unit, where our students are supported
throughout their studies by experienced and accessible teachers, whilst at the
same time being challenged to give their best. Our excellent team of lecturers includes both scholars who are
recognised for their high quality research, and experienced practitioners.
Teaching is informed both by our research and legal practice. The School works closely with other Departments within the University to provide our students with an inter-disciplinary approach to current legal issues.
Don’t just take our word for it. Alumni from the University’s School of Law agree, the University of Bedfordshire is a great place to study. Kelly Blake LLB, who graduated in 2007, says:
“Choosing to study Law at the University of Bedfordshire was the best decision I ever made. It changed my life and opened up new opportunities for me.”
You can study Law at either the Luton or the Bedford campus, both of which have fantastic and ever-expanding facilities – like the state-of-the-art Moot Court at the Luton campus, which offers the opportunity to simulate real court proceedings. The Moot Court’s success has lead to it becoming a favoured Law conferencing venue in recent times, hosting the 4th and 5th Annual Forums in 2009 and 2010, organised by the Judiciary at Luton County Court.
Law is a fascinating, challenging and
rewarding field of study. A Law degree
will open the door to being a solicitor or barrister. Our LLB course satisfies
the requirements of the regulatory bodies of the legal profession (the
Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Bar Standards Board) and provides
exemption from the academic stage of legal training upon successful completion
of the course.
Subsequently, you will then be able to progress straight to the next stage of required study for a career as a solicitor or barrister, or to postgraduate study. A Law degree from the University of Bedfordshire is equally applicable to a career in the armed forces, civil service, police, government, civil society organizations and the business environment. Many employers consider the LLB to be one of the best qualifications available as it develops advance research, writing and analytical skills.
The Law School has established an increasingly successful
mooting environment where
students have the opportunity to debate legal points in a mock trial situation.
This is complemented by an annual entry into a National Mooting Competition.
In addition, our student-run Law Society is very active, organising regular mooting events and a host of social events during 2010-11, including an evening ball and a trip to the Houses of Parliament in London.
We fully appreciate that the current graduate market is challenging and we therefore offer a rich and diverse learning experience aimed at developing student potential and providing life-long skills. This in turn will prepare student to take full advantage of career opportunities. Our award winning Careers and Employment Service is also here to help and you will be able to see qualified advisers for career guidance and arrange work placements.
We hope you enjoy looking around our School website and that you decide to apply for one of our programmes. Please don’t hesitate to use contact us if you would like to ask us any questions.
