Before joining
the University of Bedfordshire, Sandra spent many years lecturing in the
City on training courses for merchant bankers and teaching at the University of Buckingham. She has also taught on the Solicitors’ Transfer
Course at BPP and published in the Legal Executive and Law Society Gazette on
Property Law.
Sandra’s main
teaching duties now cover the teaching of two core units which give
professional exemption. These subjects are Land Law, and Equity and Trusts. She
also teaches the optional unit in Mooting, taught in the new purpose-built moot
court.
Sandra assesses the units by a variety of methods including group work and recording live mooting as well as traditional examinations. Sandra is our Property Law specialist, having taught the unit from its first validation as an LL.B. course.
It was Sandra who initiated and set up the LL.M. programme, running it for its formative first three years.
Sandra
embodies the School’s ethos of putting the students first and has always seen
herself as a teacher rather than a lecturer. To this end, she has qualified
with a PGCE.
She also runs the School of Law mooting competition which has grown in popularity over the last three years. The mooting competition is supported by the local legal profession and the final is judged by a member of the Judiciary from Luton County Court. Knowles Benning and Co, a local firm of solicitors, offer work experience with expenses each year as a prize for the best mooter. Most winners of the competition have achieved their ambition of finding training contracts.
Sandra has been nominated for the University Commitment award on several occasions. She has been a reviewer for both Oxford University Press and Butterworths and has reviewed a number of books including Butterworth’s Core Text Series Land Law.
She is a consultant for Knowles Benning and Co, solicitors and she has coached employees of this firm for CPE and Legal Executive examinations.
