Amy Takhar joined the University of Bedfordshire in 2010 as a Lecturer in Marketing and teaches at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She previously taught at Keele University and De Montfort University. She specialises in teaching research methods, marketing management, marketing communications and marketing in contemporary contexts. Prior to becoming an academic practitioner Amy Takhar worked as a market research executive at OCR (Oxford, Cambridge, RSA examinations).
Amy's research interests focus on ethnic and cultural aspects of contemporary consumption and adopt an interpretivist approach. Previous work has explored the online dating environment, gender, ethnicity and identities of the British Sikh community in the UK. Amy's doctoral work in the area of ethnic online dating has also encouraged her to focus on consumer acculturation and reacculturation agents, particularly in the online environment. Amy Takhar is also interested in computer culture and social aspects that are related to this technological medium. Amy Takhar’s PhD thesis focused on “how computer culture mediates Sikh courtship rituals”.
