Profile

Amalia Garcia, Lecturer in Dance

Amalia Garcia

After completing my MA in European Dance Theatre Practice at Laban and working with professional dance practitioners for several years I was awarded a teacher Fellowship in Performing Arts where my career in Higher Education began.

Teaching role

My approach to teaching is practice-based, through classes and workshops.

I specialise in European Dance Theatre Practice but I also teach Dance technique, Choreography, Improvisation, Interdisciplinary Dance-Theatre performance and contextual studies.

Research interests

The focus of my research is practice-based research in dance and interdisciplinary dance-theatre performance.

The first being movement analysis where I focus on exploring the creation of new movement by freeing the body from habitual and familiar patterns through improvisation.

The second being the relationship between dance and technology and discovering new ways in which technology can be integrated into dance performance and the choreographic process.
