The Department of Physical Education and Sport Studies is founded on the excellent teaching pedigree boasted by the Bedford campus.
We focus on physical education, pedagogy, community sport development and management, the promotion of active lifestyles and an in-depth academic investigation into the nature of sport in its' numerous contexts.
This is undertaken with an emphasis on vocational relevance and a practical orientation.
Stretching back to 1903, we have an unbroken tradition in Physical Education provision. Indeed, we graduate more secondary Physical Education teachers than any other university in the UK.
Together with cutting edge research from internationally recognised staff, our brief spans pedagogy, sociology, psychology, philosophy, and course specific areas of investigation such as adventure recreation, community development and management, and the national curriculum.
The Bedford campus offers you a challenging, stimulating experience and increased employability. Some 92 percent of our graduates are in full-time employment or postgraduate study within six months of graduating.
We provide a range of sport-related degree courses and each is taught by academics with strong reputations in research. Teaching is underpinned by the latest findings.
The Bedford campus has a wide range of sporting facilities that are available for use by students both as part of their course and on a recreational basis. Bedford town is home to an extremely active sporting community.
The town offers a variety of other sporting venues such as the Bedford Athletics Stadium, which has hosted International Athletics meetings. Students can use these facilities to participate in sporting activities.
Our Park Square campus in Luton is home to the degree in Sports Therapy
The Sports Therapy degree is one of the longest running in the country and has links with many professional organisations, providing key work placements during the 3-year programme.
Experience is also acquired whilst working in our Sports Therapy teaching suite and Sports Massage Clinic.
