Previous Teaching Experience
  • Taught for 15 years at secondary school level
  • Undertook MSc in Physical Education which explored school based research and practitioner research (action research, narrative inquiry and autoethnography).
  • Undertook PhD entitled ‘practitioner research in physical education: teacher transformation through pedagogical and curricular change.’
  • Instigated the use of Models-based practice (i.e. Sport Education, Teaching Games for Understanding and Cooperative Learning) in the department.
  • Pioneered the use of technology-based wiki in Physical education.
  • Created partnerships with academics in the USA, New Zealand and Spain
  • Taught Key Stage 3 and 4 Physical Education (Games, Swimming, Gymnastics and Athletics)
  • An experienced form tutor and mentor
  • Involved in the school’s extensive extra-curricular programme

  • Validation of cooperative learning in physical education (With Dr Ben Dyson, University of Auckland, April 2009 - present).
  • 2010-15: The occupational socialisation of physical education teachers and their development of knowledge and beliefs: a study of pre-service, graduating and graduated teachers. (with Professor David Kirk, Dr Toni O’Donovan and Members of the PESS department).
  • 2010-12: Development of a Practitioner Research network in Physical Education (with Professor David Kirk, Dr Toni O’Donovan and Members of the PESS department).
  • 2010-11: Teaching A’level physical education to digital natives using a 21st century approach. 
  • 2010-11: Who makes the best games? The results of a collaborative game-making project.
