Senior Lecturer in Sport & Physical Education
I qualified as a PE teacher in 1986 and have been passionately involved in delivering aspects of Sport and Physical Education ever since. I was fortunate to be Head of two PE Departments in London Schools, delivering a wide range of physical activities and coaching teams to success in regional and national competitions in football, cricket and athletics.
Whilst proud of the high level performances, I have always strongly promoted the notion of ‘Sport for all’, encouraging active engagement at all levels. It was during this period that I fostered an active interest in Outdoor and Adventurous Activities (OAA), eventually leading to a Post Graduate Diploma in Outdoor Education from Moray House College in Edinburgh (Edinburgh University).
Having re-gained the flavour for higher education, I completed a MSc in Sport Science at Brunel University in 2004. This journey lead to my current position at the University of Bedfordshire where I have been teaching since 2001.
As well as being a Senior Lecturer contributing to a number of programmes, I chair the Sport Staff-Student Consultative Committee which acts as a forum for student issues.
I have enjoyed participating in many sports over a prolonged athletic career and while only occasionally actively competitive, I regularly participate in adventure sports and martial arts.
I teach on a variety of programmes delivering several modules for the Adventure Recreation programme, which include being module leader for adventure practice and work placement preparation in year 2 and supervise research projects in year 3.
I also teach OAA on the BA QTS PE teacher training course and to PGCE secondary PE programme. I am also involved and make a contribution to the teaching of Sport Psychology courses in years 1 and 2.
