Graduate teacher programme

Graduate teacher programme

Student teacher and pupils

The Graduate Teacher Programme enables schools to employ people who are not yet qualified to teach and to work in partnership with the University to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), allowing students to qualify as a teacher while they work. We invite applications for Primary and for Secondary in the following subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, Physical Education, Design Technology, ICT and Business Studies. Ofsted May 2010 graded the University Graduate Teacher Programme as Outstanding. The University follows Safeguarding Children and Safer Recruitment in Education.

You must:

  • Have a 2:2 (Honours) degree and if you are teaching in a secondary school a degree where at least 50% of the subject study within the degree relates directly to the subject to be taught.
  • Have English and Maths at grade C or above at GCSE and if you are working in primary school you must also have Science at grade C or above at GCSE or the equivalent

Applicants must:

  • Apply via the TDA applicant portal http://www.tda.gov.uk/get-into-teaching/teacher-training-options/gtp.aspx from the University of Bedfordshire profile by the closing date
  • Provide any supplementary information requested by us in support of your application by the deadline given
  • Have substantial main stream school experience in the age range they wish to train in.

At interview:

  • There will be an exercise with a group of pupils
  • A short written test of English (and mathematics for primary applicants).
  • Interview with school and University staff

Successful candidates:

  • Will be employees of the school
  • Will be paid as an unqualified teacher
  • Have access to the University resources
  • Attend subject and professional studies sessions

Secondary Maths and Chemistry applicants can apply via the TDA Applicant portal between February 24th until March 23rd 2012.
