The Careers and Employment Service worked in collaboration with academic and support staff across departments within the University of Bedfordshire, while engaging local and national organisations to create an opportunity for students, staff, unions and employers to share knowledge, skills and experiences of careers in the education/teaching sector, as well as develop a relationship between potential employers and the University of Bedfordshire.
We included two more areas for exhibitors and increased exhibitor numbers by only 6 to create more space in each area. We included layout maps at the entrance to each area and provided extra tables for exhibitors where this had been requested.
On arrival this year, those exhibitors who were in P0.50 expressed concern that the students would not go in that room. In fact the room was very busy but exhibitor’s comments on the feedback sheets showed they still felt they would all like to be in the same room next year, which would demand us finding much larger area on Campus.
We mixed the LEA’s and Agencies, unions and other organisation thought the 4 areas. Feedback from exhibitors this year was divided as to whether this was a good idea or not.
All students in the School of Education were invited not just the trainee teachers. Information to students went out from the beginning of the academic year on BREO, posters, emails and students were told in lectures and tutor groups.
The event was very well received by those who attended and feedback requested this continue. It was felt this was a good addition, with one exhibitor requesting a lunch instead.

* - approx. count by The Careers and Employment Service
Over 95% of respondents, student and exhibitor, felt that the event was either ‘very useful’ or ‘quite useful’.
‘Most were well prepared & several had further questions to ask about provision for NQT’s’
‘Some were very well prepared with their details pre-printed out’
‘Slips completed were a great idea’
‘Primary need to realise they may need to move to find 1st teaching post’
