Profile

Senior Lecturer Dawn Daley-James specialises in the teaching of Physical Education at KS1 and 2 and leads the PE Specialism Modules on the B.Ed Primary programmes as well as tutoring on the PGCE courses , Professional Studies Modules, Dissertation Supervision and Personal Tutoring.

Dawn trained at the former Bedford PE College and graduated from Cambridge University with a B.Ed Honours Degree beginning her career as a PE Teacher in Beds and Cambs schools before working in London as a LEA Advisor for PE and then an OFSTED Inspector.

During her time in London, Dawn co-ordinated and delivered PE Induction Courses for teachers across all boroughs and was involved in school Inspections.

She gained her MA in Education at the University of East Anglia after researching strategies to support EAL pupils in PE and producing curriculum support materials for primary schools.

Dawn’s teaching experience is vast having taught all age groups from reception to GCSE classes and it is continually being updated through her involvement in National initiatives.

She has worked part-time as a School Sports Co-ordinator for the Redborne Partnership in Mid-Beds as part of the National PESSYP Strategy with responsibility for auditing the PE provision in local primary schools.

Dawn is also a National Tutor and Consultant for the Basic Moves Programme, through her links with University of Edinburgh and currently runs CPD Courses for teachers in Bedfordshire Lower Schools.

Dawn has served as a Parent Governor at a Bedford lower school and continues to liaise with local schools in order to promote initiatives in PE and to develop partner schools for students.

A former athlete and sprint record holder at Bedford CPE, Dawn continues to be involved in athletics as a coach, committee member and Schools Liaison Officer at the Bedford & County Athletics Club based at Bedford’s International Stadium.

She has also maintained links with the Beds County Schools Athletics Association where she was formerly Secretary and Team Manager, and co-ordinates visits by young athletes to the University campus.

Dawn’s love of sport began in early childhood watching her father as a professional footballer playing for Coventry City and Derby County. She remains passionate about sport and is committed to getting the best out of children through PE . Dawn has a particular interest in inspiring pupils in the run up to the 2012 Olympics.

Research Interests

Her research interests include the development of fundamental movement skills as well as supporting and mentoring talented performers.
