Louise Starkie

Senior Lecturer in Criminal Psychology

Louise Starkie

I am a Chartered Psychologist and Registered Practitioner; my specialist area is forensic psychology. I joined the University of Bedfordshire in September 2009 as the programme manager for the BSc in Psychology and Criminal Behaviour, this being my first lecturing position.

Prior to this I worked as a Forensic Psychologist in a high security prison, a private regional secure unit and an NHS medium secure unit for mentally disordered offenders dating back to 2001. For the past five years I have also provided an independent consultancy service to various solicitors’ firms, the MAPPA, the CPS, and acted as an expert witness within HM Crown Court.

In the past I have also provided specialist lectures to Psychology Clinical Doctorate students, Prisons, NHS, Probation and Police Professionals, and have presented at a number of national conferences. Since coming to UoB I have developed and implemented the MSc Forensic Psychology which was successfully accredited by the British Psychological Society within its first year.

Forensic Psychology has found its place within the UoB’s psychology department within the past three years and it has been a pleasure to watch that process and will continue to be so.
