Postgraduate opportunities in the subject areas referred to in the Research section are available at MSc (by research) and MPhil/PhD level.
Postgraduate students in the department are provided with dedicated office space, computer facilities and laboratory space and resources.
They are recruited into at the University's Graduate School and receive training or advice (as appropriate) in research methods, how to write and publish scientific articles; the art of oral presentations; production of and defending of the thesis, in addition to advice on CVs, interview techniques, careers etc.
All students are actively encouraged to present their preliminary findings at appropriate scientific conferences both in the UK and overseas, and to publish their work in scientific journals.
Recent successful PhD students from the Department have gone on to research positions such as those at Stanford (Ivy League), California, USA; CRC Institute for Cancer Studies, University of Birmingham; Welcome Trust Centre for Cell Matrix Research, Manchester and Imperial College, London.
Others have gone into other careers, e.g. sales in industry (Roche, Greece) and consultancy positions (Accenture, City of London).
The Division periodically has funded places for research students. Such opportunities are advertised nationally and open for competition.
In addition, the Department welcomes applications from self-funded, part and full-time, UK and overseas students to join any one of its active research programmes.
