Melanie Baker-Inns: BSc Hons Biochemistry and Environmental Science

Melanie Baker-Inns

BSc Hons Biochemistry and Environmental Science, 2002

Melanie Baker-Inns

Melanie graduated from the University with a 2(i) BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry and Environmental Science in 2002.

She chose to come to this University to study for her degree because the modular scheme appealed to her, and she liked being able to do a joint degree in two different subject areas.

The modular scheme enabled Melanie to get tasters of many different subjects, allowing her to shape her degree into the fields that she particularly enjoyed.

She liked the friendly environment immediately, and the compact class sizes enabled greater interaction between students and lecturers, adding to the sociable atmosphere which made it a great place to study in.

Melanie considers that "the emphasis the university placed on practical work and transferable skills, I believe, has greatly enhanced my postgraduate employability. I have enjoyed my time at the university immensely. I take with me many invaluable experiences and lifelong friendships."

Interview took place in 2002.

Update 2004

Melanie began work after her degree as a postgraduate research assistant at Cambridge University working on Juvenile Type 1 Diabetes. She then decided to further her academic career and returned to the University in 2003 to undertake an MSc by Research with Dr Neville Punchard into granuloma formation and inflammation, which she is currently completing.
