Graduate teacher programme

Graduate teacher programme

The Graduate Teacher Programme enables schools to employ people who are not yet qualified to teach and to work in partnership with the University to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), allowing students to qualify as a teacher while they work.

We invite applications for Primary and for Secondary in the following subjects:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Physical Education
  • Design Technology
  • ICT
  • Business Studies

You must:

  • Have a degree and if you are teaching in a secondary school a degree where at least 50% of the subject study within the degree relates directly to the subject to be taught
  • Have English and Maths at grade C or above at GCSE and if you are working in primary school you must also have Science at grade C or above at GCSE or the equivalent

Applicants must:

  • Complete the application form
  • Attach copies of degree and GCSE certificates (originals will need to be seen at interview).

At interview:

  • There will be an exercise with a group of pupils
  • A short written test of English
  • Interview with school and University staff

Successful candidates:

  • Will be employees of the school
  • Will be paid as an unqualified teacher
  • Have access to the University resources
  • Attend subject and professional studies sessions
