Thank you for your interest in the PGCE Secondary course. We are very proud of the ITT courses we run here and of our excellent reputation in training teachers that spans over 100 years. We are very supportive and want you to be the very best you can be whilst you’re with us. We are constantly seeking to improve our performance and expect our trainees to play an active part in our drive for increased quality provision and overall effectiveness.

The calibre of trainees that join the PGCE Secondary course is high and the pace is frenetic. Your learning journey will be an intense one and at times tiring. However, it will be a rewarding journey that seeks to meet the needs of individual trainees whilst keeping an eye on helping you meet the TDA standards in order that you can obtain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) at the end of the course. The support you’ll get whilst on the course is 3-fold, in that you have a school based mentor, subject tutor and a consortium link tutor (CLT) to rely on throughout.

Assessment is ongoing and rigorous. You will need to provide a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate that you have met the QTS standards and will receive help and guidance in order to complete these.

The PGCE Secondary course offers individuals the opportunity to develop themselves whilst learning and acquiring new skills.
