James Shea

Profile

James was Head of English and a teacher at a Humanities Specialist Secondary School for ten years before taking up his role in 2008 as Senior Lecturer in Education for the Department of Secondary and Post-Compulsory Education. 

He is currently a Cluster Manager for Partnerships bringing together the local authority and schools within the Luton area and he is also the Department's International Representative looking at developing internationalism opportunities.

James runs the ‘English Specialist’ website www.english-specialist.com which brings together an international community of those passionate about reading, drama, ebooks, English resources, English reference texts, teaching English, teaching English as a second language and learning English. Those interested in English Studies or Teaching English are particularly welcome to join.

Qualifications

  • Masters in Education - Leadership and Management
  • B.A (Hons) English Language and Literature
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Secondary English, Media and Drama)
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice 
  • Fellow of the Higher Education Academy

Teaching Expertise

His main area is the training of Post Graduate Secondary English teachers and he also teaches on the undergraduate English Studies Programme.

James is Academic Staff Governor for the University of Bedfordshire.

Research Interests

With a research specialism in new technologies, James is currently doing his doctorate in Virtual Learning Environments within Teacher Training as well as launching a new unit on the Masters in Education on eLearning.
