The Departments strength is its staff and its new facilities. Our staff have a range of experiences in sport and exercise, with a wide range of research interests and involvement with elite sport at the highest level.
Many staff are recognised nationally and internationally for their academic work and experiences, including research.
Recent multi-million pound investments in state of the art laboratory facilities gives the Department high quality opportunities for learning and engagement in experimental work.

The laboratories have a range of scientific equipment that includes an environmental chamber, and equipment for the measurement of oxygen uptake, speed, reaction times, strength, power and body composition, as well as the first muscle cell and molecular biology laboratory of its kind in the UK.
This means that students coming to Bedfordshire to study sports science can experience facilities and staff that are unrivalled anywhere else in the UK.
Recent new appointments have strengthened the department’s expertise and reputation in muscle cellular and molecular physiology and applied sports science.

The Bedford campus has a wide range of sporting facilities that are available for use by students both as part of their course and on a recreational basis.
Bedford town is home to an extremely active sporting community.
The town offers a variety of other sporting venues such as the Bedford Athletics Stadium, which has hosted International Athletics meetings.
Students can use these facilities to participate in sporting activities.
