Professor David Kirk

This area is concerned with learning, instruction and subject matter knowledge as interacting and interdependent components of pedagogy, practised in particular contexts such as school physical education programs, sports clubs, and other settings.

The program of research in PESP is focused around the following topics:

  • The social construction of physical education, including histories and philosophies of physical education
  • Physical education and government policy, including PESSCL and PESSYP
  • Transfer of learning and the challenges of lifelong learning
  • Interventions in schools and community settings using models-based practice
  • Physical activity and motivation in school programs
  • Pedagogies of adventure education
  • Reflective practice and practitioner research
  • Critical pedagogies in dance education
  • Developmental socialisation into youth sport
  • Pedagogies of coaching, including Dartfish technology
  • Physical education teacher education, including mentoring, assessment for learning, ePortfolios
  • Pedagogies of gender and embodied identity
